Changemaker | Social Innovator | Professor

Hi, my name is Nikki James. I love God, love people, and love the life I have had the good fortune of living to date!

With every fiber of my being, I believe that everyone holds within them the potential to change the world! But, the world has and continues to inequitably distribute opportunities for identifying and developing that potential. It is the inequitable distribution of access to education and learning that is my driving force and gets me out of bed every day.

My path has not always been clear and to some, it does not make sense. But it is one of happenstance that requires an uncanny trust of THE PROCESS and where the links and connections emerge in retrospect.

First and foremost, I am a change-maker and social innovator. I have never been content with the status quo and from a young age my brain was dubbed 'an automatic problem-solving machine.' So I took that raw talent and developed it through education, research AND practice. I have failed a lot, but each time I have learned a valuable lesson that has served me well.

Last but not least, I am a teacher (aka professor). To impart wisdom, develop skills and encourage the ideas of the next generation of change-makers is a responsibility I accept with the gravitas and humility it deserves. I firming believe that to accept the role of a teacher, is to accept the role of mentor, guide, cheerleader, and sometimes even devils-advocate. My teaching philosophy is to develop the individual so that they can go out and BE THE CHANGE they want to see in the world. This approach to teaching is not always popular at the moment but it has served my students well for more than a decade, even when it takes a year or two for the penny to drop.

Whether you are a potential student here trying to decide whether to sign up for one of my classes, a potential partner trying to understand this crazy Aussie a little better, or a fellow researcher trying to understand my positionality in order to better understand my research, welcome. And, I hope that you find what you are looking for here.
